IG monitoring team arrested wrong police suspects
On Monday at about 1100Hours, The Inspector General of Police monitoring team from the police zonal headquarters, Onikan- Lagos. Stormed Anthony Village for an undercover operations.
They were reportedly positioned at different strategic locations from the junction of new castle Hotel to Anthony village road, Kosofe LG.
One of the detective in multi stood around zenith bank adjacent to silvia crescent, observing a particular police traffic warder, sergeant.
The sergeant namewitheld later left his beat to the junction of faranmobi ajike street/Anthony village road their normal beat.
Unknowingly to him that someone was monitoring his movements. Suddenly, he was grabbed and his colleagues was infuriated by the manners in which the unknown man held him tight.
He was challenged by another sergeant by the name Otu. The detective later introduced himself as Ig monitoring team from the police headquarters latee called his other colleagues to come over to the spot.
This made Otu one of the hardworking, neat, patriotic and bribe free police officer to calm down over his colleague ill treatment over an alleged kickbacks.
Both the suspect, Otu, a female sergeant and a newspaper vendor, 4 persons altogether were arrested.
The suspects nothing was found on him, Otu who was regarded as no nonsense, hardworking, enemy of reckless drivers and road traffic rule violator officer. Mostly importantly, like a particular lastma officer called Sosan along the same corridor with sergeant Otu, He doesn’t takes bribes as observed over the years but always. However , they were always being appreciated by the road users for their good jobs at their beats. While the female sergeant was also arrested as collaborator and the newspaper vendor was alleged as the banker to the suspects, whom the bribes are kept with.
Two thousand naira rough notes claimed to be her sales money as the time of her arrest was alleged by the detectives as the money the suspects kept with her. Which she denied and it was never returned to her despite her pleading as gathered.
Following her arrest alongside the suspects in the morning prevented her from selling her newspapers, which many of them became unsold copies. She claimed altogether she suffer lost of about #7000.
However, luck ran out of a Police inspector accosted around Onigbongbo/Kosofe boundary. When asked what’s on him, he declared #300 and claimed it was his feeding and bottle water money. Then, he was ordered to do self check. His claims was rejected and they alleged he took bribe, he was arrested too.
When the Anthony Village police station,DPO Sp. onon charles got the signal he was not happy. He reportedly said on through phone conversationto the monitoring that since no exhibit was found on the traffic warders they ought not to be arrested from their duty post.
After been delayed for about 8hours they were later released around 1900hours the same day.
