The courtesy visit took place at her residence in Anthony Village Area of Kosofe local government yesterday around 1:00Pm.
The Director/Head of Planning Division of Spectroplan Konsult Ltd. TPL.Mrs. Catherine Kehinde George was born at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in June 1948 as fourth child to professional parents Pastor (Surveyor) and Mrs. S. A. Sogunro – Pitan. Her father became the first Licensed Surveyor in Ijebu Province, Western Region, Nigeria, in 1936; her mother was a retired teacher and later a confectioner.
At the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, (1973 – 1979), she was Project Planner on several schemes, including Ogba Housing Scheme and Amuwo Odofin New Town. She led the Technical Monitoring Team to define the most feasible route for the 28km. Lagos Metro Line Project (1981 – 82). She was consultant Project Planner for 500 Housing Units Estate in Ajaokuta (Techno-crete Limited 1982 – 85), and Lead Planner for University of Uyo Master Plan (1993).
In the academics, she taught at Lagos State Polytechnic (1985) and later at Yaba College of Technology (1986 – 2000), where she was Head of Department of Urban and Regional Planning (1990 – 1992). Her innovation in teaching there was the video-recording of field work and studio presentation.
At Spectroplan Konsult Ltd – the firm she co-founded with her husband Arc. Akin. George, FNIA; her major works as Director / Head of Planning Division, include consultation for oil and gas industry, Lead Planner on Galadimawa District Plan, Abuja, FCT (2001-06); Lead Planner on Odonla Housing Scheme, Lagos State, (2000-2002); and Co-Project Director, Ikorodu Master Plan (2008 – 2010 Inception to Draft Final Stage).
She has presented several papers at the grassroots level, and at national and international fora. She authored “Basic Principles and Methods of Urban and Regional Planning” 3rd Edt. 2007, receiving commendation from The Royal Town Planning Institute (of Britain) and from Nigerian Institute of Town Planners/Town Planners Registration Council Professional Examination Board. Her recent publications are “The Challenges of Urbanisation in Nigerian Urban Centres: THE LAGOS MEGA-CITY SITUATION, A Town Planner’s Perspective” 2009, and “Wedding Message” 2010, a reflection of her experience on the home front in raising her kids. In Press are her two publications; “Basic Principles and Methods of Urban and Regional Planning”4th Edition and “Urbanisation and the Lagos Mega-City.” According to her LinkedIn information.
She is an active member of the Oseni Str. , Silvia Crescent, Odunlami Str. and environs community development association(O.S.O CDA), Anthony Village, Kosofe LG, Lagos. At special event, her youngest daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bunmi George, a health consultant, welcomed all, and addressed the on healthy living, diet and exercise to control weight.
The female wing of the Nigeria Institute of Town planners led by Tpl.Bukola Olunloyo, at the interactive event stated the group felt they should pay her a courtesy visit and equally present a gift in recognition of her efforts and the unwavering motherly supports individually and collectively to them.
During the interactive section questions concerning community planing and building control was asked by O. S. O CDA Chairman Mr. Lekan Odujirin .Tpl .Bukola, took her time and gave chronological explanation on the role of the town planner in the Community Development under which drainage clearing within community development associations (CDAs’) was mentioned and advised the CDAs to write to the Ministry of Environment and copy the governor office for the required attention.
The issue of violating building control law was also discussed how people build on government setbacks , drainages and walkways as humans attitude.
The hostess, Tpl. Mrs. Catherine Kehinde George thanked God for the wonderful impromptu courtesy call; and thanked the female Town Planners for their love for her and her family. She appreciated the wonderful work our Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode is doing in Lagos State : and pleaded that the government provides more well maintained public toilets in our public places.
