The Gubernatorial Candidate for Alliance for Democracy, Owolabi Salis has promised to reform the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Lagos and make it associable with better welfare package.
Salis said this at a special forum at the Christ Disciple International, Cherubim and Seraphim Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.
The event brought together 50 Districts in Cherubim and Seraphim across Lagos state.
According to him, there will always be union. Thuggery is different from unionism. I have a plan for transporters particularly on their welfare.
“The living condition and wage bill of transporters in the western world is one of the measures toward ascertaining the living condition of the people because they are critical factors in improving trade and commerce”.
“It’s a pity that there is no pension for them after working for years, they get tired and could not continue driving and there is nobody talking about the education of their children”, he said.
” I want to pay attention to that area, not the negative area where people use them for violence, ballot box snatching and other dirty jobs. We are going to recognise their union and make it associable”.
Also speaking at the event, The National Secretary, Christ Disciple International, Disciple Raymond Ojuookaye, said, “I am passionate about Lagos and I believe that every right-thinking youths in this age and time should also be passionate about the development of the state.“ The body of Christ should rise to the occasion to vote for a credible candidate, someone who will move Nigeria forward from the socio-economy challenges facing the state and the nation at large”, he said
