A developer by the name “Ilufemiloye Construction Limited, allegedly duped 200 would-be tenants of about N50 million at Ikosi Isheri area of Kosofe Lagos. The suspect was said to have duped the victims with the false claim that the house located at 1, Kareem Street, off Oyebanjo Solarin Street, Ketu Lagos, which was still under renovation with minor work left as at the time of of inspection.
Following the claim, Kosofe Post gathered that the suspect was able to convince the unsuspecting victims to pay in advance, pending when toilets and wiring would be fixed. One of the victims, Mrs Olaoke Yemisi, explained that: “I didn’t know that the developer would defraud us, because I saw him as a religious person. “I paid him the money, after inspecting the building and seeing that what was left was just minor work. I was asked to come back in April for collection of my keys. But the work dragged to in the Ramadan fasting which allegedly slow down the work progress. I later balance of 60,000 haven’t initially paid 100,000 for the self contained early june ahead of the rescheduled June 24 keys handover.But I could not make it there that fateful day.
“A friend of mine, who lives on the street, called me on phone, saying somebody was moving into my apartment. When I rushed down there, I was surprised that somebody has moved into my apartment.
“The development affected over 200 tenants besieged the builidng June 24 in anticipation of getting the keys later embarked on protest to the office of the deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafmi Hamzat to registered their complaints and also Alapere Police Station to report the incident.”
Yemisi added that she got to know through the other tenants and friends while at work who called her over development that she got to know that many people had been duped by the developer.
She added: “I want the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to intervene in our matter, because the developer and agents both have disappeared into the thin air.”
Another victim Another victim Kayode Emmanuel said: “I also paid N440,000 for a mini flat in June, but was surprised when other victims came to protest.
“It was a friend that introduced the developer to me. After I had paid him, he said I can move in by June 24. He later said we should move in by July 31 that the renovation was still ongoing.
“It was someone who called me that there was a crowd gathered at the front of the building protesting that they had been duped by the developer. “When I got to the scene, I was shocked with the people I saw protesting and I also went straight to Ketu Police Station, not knowing that other people had gone there too to make statements in respect of the developer.”
Kayode Emmanuel further stated that, whenever he went to check the level of work on the house, the developer and his friends would take him round, saying they were still fixing the tiles and the water. Kosofepost also learned that the developer and his friends had duped other people at other places within the State. However, it was like many are called but few are chosen some lucky tenants got their keys were seen moving in and out of the building while over One hundred were still in shock over how their hard earn resources to secure the apartment was collected by the fraudsters estimated to be about 50million.

The same style was reported used some years back on Daniel makinde street in ikosi isheri, where over 300 tenants were given keys, it was April 1st of that year, it ends up to be “April fool”. But the unfortunate thing about such occurrence is that the state government doesn’t sanction such house owners.on this street,the lucky occupants are still there while others lost millions to the scammers called Developers while house owner enjoys the house according to resident of ketu account under the condition of anonymity.
The menace according to the motorcycle operators who took our reporters to the said building noted its a recurring trend in ketu unsuspecting members of the public end up been duped if they to do thorough background check before payment.
Both calls and messages Kosofe post sent to the developer number 080823**607, 08*83841277** were not return prior to the posting the report.
The fraudulent developer Mr. Usman and the agents Tunde Adewale has been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police.
