Towards ensuring adequate support for child’s right in Agege Local Government Area, the Implementation Committee set up to sensitize and monitor the right of every child within the council area; held it’s maiden Stakeholders forum to brainstorm and share ideas on how to reach out to relevant quarters to sensitize the community on the Child’s Right Law.
The meeting held on 25 June, 2019 in the local government council secretariat, having council representatives, community development association, concerned non-governmental organisation, representatives from the Nigeria Police Force (Family Support Units), representative of the National Union of Teachers (NUT, Agege District) and members of Agege Community in attendance, discussed extensively, making references from past events and share more ideas on how to curb further infringement on the Child’s Right Law of Lagos State Government.
At the meeting, concerned Stakeholders while expressing delight on the development with the belief that child’s right would be strengthened when all hands are on the deck to ensure that protection of every child is taking seriously, urged the law enforcement agencies to give maximum cooperation to that effect.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Nigeria Police Force present at the meeting, share views and advised relevant stakeholders and community leaders to always give the law enforcement agencies the chance to exercise their primary responsibilities without hindrance, which in some cases has been the challenges facing the agencies.
The Implementation Committee was charged to put more commitment to take the awareness campaign door-to-door in all parts of Agege community for more sensitization on the Child’s Right protection and also punishment that await offenders.
Agege Local Government Council further pledged full support to the Implementation Committee and relevant Stakeholders at all times.
