Action speaks louder than words. This is true especially when it comes to children doing what is right. Children and young adults observe and copy faster than any verbal instruction from parents or guardians.
Sociologists believe several problems in the society stem from broken values and morals in the family unit. For instance, a male child growing up in a home where the father beats his wife regularly or uses his fists to dish out instructions, may grow up believing employing violence is normal. Even if the man preaches non- violence outside the house, his son will unconsciously copy what he sees.Same goes to other values like greed, hate, scorn, stealing etc. Children observe, learn and adopt.
Many people publicly condemn corruption, rape and child molestation etc but ask their immediate families and you will See the real man speaking.
For Nigeria to grow and develop, parents must fix themselves first. Look at your self in the mirror and be the change you demand for. If we all stop putting money first before every other thing, if we show love constantly to our families and let peace reign in our homes, show our children attention and love, learn to tell bed time stories of values and triumphs over evil, society will begin to change.
When did you buy your wife a gift outside her birthday, When last did you take your son to school or pick him up? When last did you lead the family in prayer? Yet your voice is loudest in complaining about the country and its people. When we apply one way traffic even with our children in the car, bribe law enforcement officers shamelessly and pay teachers to favour your children with marks what example do you think you are setting for your kids? If we Look at the mirror and fix ourselves , our children will be better than us and our society will be that dream society we all crave for. Fix your self
