The LG News Academy team was led by Mr. Tunde Jakande, The Chief Executive Officer of the academy yesterday to present the award to the Permanent Secretary at the ministry of Commerce and co operative, Mrs Omobolanle Ogunmola.
Presenting the award to the P.S Tunde said” It was indeed a great pleasure and privilege for me to present the LG News Award of Excellence to the former Permanent secretary of the local Government Service Commission, Mrs Omobolanle Ogunmola. Adding that “Ogunmola facilitated major reforms as PS of the commission. Who was a guest lecturer at the LG News Academy 9th anniversary where she received a standing ovation for her revealing and insightful lecture.
In her response the former Permanent Secretary of the local Government Service Commission, Mrs Omobolanle Ogunmola says she successfully and meriteously discharged her official obligations while in the commission noting also that she has no regrets.
Ogunmola who is now the Permanent Secretary at the ministry of Commerce and co operative believes positive impacts were achieved by the commission which has helped repositioned local Government Councils to provide more efficient Services and deliver on the Commissions mandate.
Speaking exclusively to L G News Academy in her office at her new duty post, the P S said during her time, promotion of staff was a priority.
“Before i resumed as PS promotional exams were delayed. We changed all that when we came on board. We ensured that letters were released early and the financial implication of the promotion were effected. Sometimes officers get the difference in the pay pocket even before receiving their letters. We also put human capacity at the front burner. Staff and officers of councils were subjected to regular workshops and training programmes to enhance competence and improve skills. We made sure deployment and posting of officers were done by merit and the most senior officer heads a department . During the recruitment exercise, We ensured only applicants with proven character and potentials were employed.”
Ogunmola said files brought to her table were treated as quickly as possible noting that it helped ease the bureaucracy in the System.
“I treated every file like i am holding the individual so i ensured mails no matter how many, are promptly dealt with. I thank God for the kind of person that is chairman of the commission. Alhaji Babatunde Rotinwa guided and supported me all through. He does not kill talent. Rather he grooms and give you room to express yourself. He is not a boss either. He related to me like a daughter. I became even more dedicated . Today I am fulfilled and convinced I did not disappoint him or those that put me there’.
Does she miss the commission?
Ogunmola who looked very relaxed, laughed and said yes and no.
“I like the commission because it was very hectic and busy. I was constantly attending to issues and treating files. It took alot from me. Here, things are a bit calmer and easy but it has its own peculiar challenges. In all things I give God the glory. There are so many people just as qualified but it is the grace of God and I will never take his grace for granted. she said.
