Pat, “Family ties mean that no matter how much you might want to run from your family, you can’t.”, these were the exact words muttered by my husband when we first discussed family ties. He took time to explain this again and again.
Years grew by, and this symbol of royalty, my hubby, the First grand child to Dr. Ibanga Udo Akpabio; a Nigerian educator and politician who was the first Minister of Education in the Eastern Region of Nigeria, the founder of Ibibio State College and indeed, a member of the National Council of Nigeria and cameroons. I was married to a dynasty where loyalty is not just felt, but practiced. This chronological trait must have been the blood that compelled my hubby to “Move” with his brother, Godswill Akpabio to the camp of the Next levels.
I can recall that Morning, when his brother’s call woke us up. The table was very open. Good minded Godswill Akpabio, gave his brother, my hubby the right to finish his tenure as a serving Commissioner under the PDP and Governor Udom Emmanuels led administration. He asked him to stay and complete his tenure, but Immediately he dropped the call, my husband ministered to me that Akpabio was leaving the PDP to join the President in combatting the nations most crucible challenges. “So, wetin you wan do now”:, I asked.“ Nwan Ami, Family is not an important thing. It is everything.” He replied. I have to move on the side of family. I said family it is and family is supreme and we stand with our family no matter what.
Tears of a man’s undying love for his extended family were all flowing as I watched my husband close the files of Government memos. That was an end to his ministerial responsibilities. Family is everything!.
The electoral processes that mocked His Excellency Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, such that was perpetrated with a broad-day light robbery of his candidacy did not move my hubby who had resigned his appointment to pursue what he described as a “Family for National Development Agenda”. He pursued it with such vigour, strength and determination that gave me the nerves to stay close with the rubbish and nonsense on social media, from those who had their foolish orgasms, squirting, masturbating nonsense and ejaculating rubbish on the name of a man which will take their own generations decades to produce his quarter. Ibanga gave me the reason and the ground to stay on the lane of family, which was my everyday slogan.
Just yesterday, as Our GSM, Dr. Godswill Akpabio took a bow before the floor of the Senate after his Ministerial Nomination, a whatsapp message came from my husband with the wordings; ” Baby, Godswill Akpabio is an enigma and a strength to Ukana, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria and Africa at Large. I would have been a foolish brother, if I left him as at when he needed me most. I would have lost trust, moral conscience and respect before you, and our kids, if i didnt stand with the man I once became the John Baptist to what is known as today’s era of “Uncommon transformation” in Akwa Ibom State. If he had a brother that left him when he needed them most, Ibanga is counted out. In time of test, Family is the best. See you soon baby”. He ended.
I don’t know what lesson this little experience of mine might have brought your way. Let it come to you, that a family that is United in love can always win the most dreaded battles of life. Encourage your spouse to love his or her family.
Ibanga has taught me to live the scriptures of Loving, for Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” –1 Corinthians 13:4-8. “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.” –Romans 12:9
While you ponder, let me celebrate the Man, who left his position as a Serving Commissioner, a high blooded man of Royalty and Loyalty, my Man-Friday and lover to face the path of his own family. A true blood who acted like Ruth to Noami during his brother’s most demanding times, saying rather, ” Godswill, Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God”. The man who reaffirmed the importance of family and instilled in me the fact that Family is the greatest facilitator of kindness.
Ladies and gentlemen, join me in celebrating the Undertaker of Royalty, the Ensign of Loyalty; my one and only Sir (Barr.) Ibanga Ime Akpabio.
