….LSPWC Urges Residents to Be Patient
The Lagos State Public Works Corporation LSPWC has urged Lagos residents to be patient as it doubles effort to rid the state of potholes and ensure Lagos roads remain motorable as we approach the last quarter of the year.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation Engr Olufemi Daramola stated this during a chat in his office on the activities of the Corporation since mid June 2019. He said Public Works Corporation is fully aware of the situation of roads in the State and efforts are in top gear to alleviate the discomfort commuters go through on some of the bad roads in line with the executive order of His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State.
Engr Daramola mentioned some of the roads where repair work have been carried out on critical sections slowing down traffic to include Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, Ikorodu road Ojota interchange opposite LAMATA office, Ikotun-Ijegun road, Dormalong link (Jibowu-Moshalashi), Oba Ogunusi road (Grammar School Section), Ikeja under bridge (Both bounds), Ogudu road, Eric Moore Abebe Junction, Oduduwa road Apapa, Oguntolu/ George street Shomolu, Iddo inward Idumota, Alapere road junction inward Lagos Ibadan Old Toll Gate, Billings way Oregun, Opebi/Allen/Toyin street Ikeja, Herbert Macaulay road Lagos Mainland, Ikotun Igando road, Ilupeju Avenue by Ilupeju Secondary school, Alfred Rewane road, Point road Apapa, Apapa road, Iju road, Maryland Independence Tunnel, the whole stretch of Apogbon under bridge, Ilupeju by pass, Igando road among other areas.
While also noting that palliatives with boulders and crushed stones were done at Oke-Afa Isolo, Ejigbo, Ikotun-Ijegun axis, Oba Sekumade and Bayeku road at Ikorodu, Ahmadu Bello way and other similar strategic roads. According to Engr Daramola, the Corporation also graded Ikorodu Road Mile 12 inward Ketu on Tuesday 30th July to reduce travel time and ameliorate the trouble commuters experience on the axis pending permanent solution.
The General Manager confirmed that the challenges rage from isolated potholes, sectional road failures and drainage challenge across all the Local Governments. He said since the inauguration of His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governor of Lagos State, he has invested resources to put the Corporation back to shape and remove some challenges such as non functional equipment and plants among others. He noted that the three Asphalt plants are now functioning and the Corporation is ready for the task ahead.
Engr Daramola assured residents that in the nearest future, pot holes on the roads would have reduced and in cases where they occur, the response rate will be faster. He said some of the roads have outlived their life span and there is apparent drainage associated problem in most areas. He stressed that non functional discharge of storm water to the catchment areas has been a major challenge. He emphasized that the Corporation is collaborating with Office of Drainage Services to ensure blocked drainages are desilted so that repair work carried out on roads with drainage problems can last longer.
The General Manager agreed that the quantum of bad road situation is much and it has to be done in phases. He said in spite of the rains which affects the road repair work, the Corporation will always take advantage of good weather in the interim, while assuring residents of speedy works when the rain subsides. He said the Corporation has a strong mandate to get rid of pot holes in Lagos within the shortest possible time.
