The Chairperson of Agboyi Ketu Local Council Development Area, Hon. ( Mrs) Tawakalitu Oshinowo announced the launch of the empowerment scheme at the Tam Royal Event Centre, Alapere, Kosofe in Lagos State to curb unemployment, one of the biggest economic problems facing our society.
The programme tagged “WE LIFT” aims to provide skill acquisitions and startup capital after completion of the training by the beneficiaries selected within the 7 wards in Agboyi ketu and surrounding areas. It will also support existing poverty alleviation and women empowerment programmes and schemes to improve human development indices in Lagos State with induction of sixty trainees as first batch beneficiaries.
Speaking at the programme on Monday, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu commended the Mayor Dele Oshinowo le administration for its bold commitment to empowering the people, stressing that the scheme will reduce the statistics of the unemployed in Lagos.
She charged the beneficiaries to take the program serious, adding that their success will serve as a tool to lifting their friends and family out of poverty.
Earlier, the chairperson of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mrs Tawakalitu Oshinowo said the program is designed to provide a vehicle of progress for the unemployed, adding that the present administration understands the power of the young people to excel when given a space.
“This administration understands the power of young people, who are at the forefront of change and innovation, and many of them have the spirit to make things happen, they just need to be given a space to excel, and that is the core objective of today’s celebration , as we have provided a vehicle of progress that will transform the unemployed to an employer of labour, and the dependent class to attain financial Independence from dormancy to germination.”
She emphasised that the empowerment program was a complete shift from the past and the necessary tools required for the successful completion of the training by the beneficiaries has been put in place against any hindrance to make it indelible.
“Please save these words and take them to the bank that your induction today does not guarantee your success at the end of the exercise; what guarantees your success would be your total and unflinching commitment to the training program. Pay attention to your trainers and facilitators and kindly have it at the back of your mind that adequate monitoring will be put in place in your various place of trainings, as failure to record eighty percent attendance monthly will lead to your expulsion from the scheme, “the inductees warned.
We are rest assured that your participation in the program speaks of your bold commitment to achieving success in life, and also actively participate in key processes that change lives for prosperity, this will implore you to remain focused
“I implore you to take ownership as being young is more than age, the age carries endless possibilities, creativity, energy, all these attitudes will not only determine your future, they will also define what the world looks today as your productivity, and your tenacity of purpose will aid progress of humanity, as well as our communities,” The First lady of Agboyi Ketu Lcda, Hon. (Mrs) stated.
The Honourable Supervisor of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon.(Mrs) Adetola Abubakar gave chronological background of the scheme”the trainees will undergo training for minimum of six months, and maximum of two years depending on the vocational courses applied for,” She stated.
She further explained that at end of the exercise, the successful participants will be provided start-up capital, equipment, rented shops, and a robust post- evaluation exercise to monitor the trainees for a certain timeline.
The highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of certificate of admission to the participants.
Apart from the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, other dignitaries at the event are Agboyi ketu First lady, Mrs. Tawakalitu Oshinowo, member representing Kosofe Constituency 2 at the State Assembly, APC Leader, Pa Steven Oyedele, Hon. Tunde Braimoh, Kosofe Constituency 1, Hon. Sanni Ganiu Babatunde Okanlawon represented by Hon. Ganiu Oyebanjo , Agboyi Ketu legislative Leader, Hon. Akinyemi Tajudeen.
