What EX- Governor , Akinwunmi Ambode meant to Governing Advisory council(GAC) of APC , King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal K1, 57 Local council chairmen, PSP LAWMA, Lagos state House of Assembly, Kingmakers or politicians and other individuals is quite different from what he meant to online or community media practitioners in Lagos as he engaged them till the tail end of his administration.
He started with the appointment of special Adviser on Communities and Communications in the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Akeem Omoyele Sulaimon, who took over from his predecessor, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan (A publisher of community newspaper, The EchoNews) Who later rose to become the Commissioner for information and strategy.
One of the duty of the Speccial adviser on CC is to, mobilise people at the grassroots and project the State Government’s policy, programmes and developmental projects. and this was done in different ways. However, the most spectacular aspect was the enagentment of the community media practitioners in Lagos as partner in progress. This adviser was one of the reported appointment missing among the various ones made, Sanwoolu’s sofar.
Then workshops was organised for the community newspaper practitioners, press releases, event coverage and quarterly adverts running into several hundred of thousands was given to this critical stakeholders.
Kosofe Post, gathered that several attempts were made by individuals and association to the concerned ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) geared towards partnership that will take the smart city to a greater height. However, the outcomes remains inconclusive which some of the community Media Practitioners lamented over the developments.
The huge impact partnership with Ex- Governor , Ambode is what hundreds of the community practitioners in Lagos State will not forget so soon and few partisans among them are currently counting their loses and shedding bucket of tears over lack of sustainability of the media engagement.
