A lawyer, Adedoyin Banjo, was yesterday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for “wilfully” damaging a gate and fence erected by Emeka Onochie valued at N400,000.
Banjo, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was arraigned on a one-count charge of wilful damage.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, said that the defendant committed the offence on November 29, 2019.
According to him, the offence is punishable under Section 351(i) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
Following his not guilty plea and the bail application made by the defence lawyer, Lateef Abdulsalam, the magistrate granted him bail on liberal terms.
The magistrate said: “The defendant is hereby granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must show evidence of tax payment and a verifiable residential address.”
The matter was thereafter adjourned till March 12, 2020 for trial.
