There’s a popular saying that says “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.” In the case of the southern Nigeria, the saying should thus say “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me at all times, super shame on me.” This has been the case between the northern Nigeria and the southern Nigeria since the northern and southern protractorates came together as one. While the north has been sophisticated in their political scheming the south on the other hand have accepted to be willing tools in the hands of the North, aka sophisticated morons.
Yet again, before our very eyes, history will be repeating again and this time, if the south do not come out with one voice of wholesome unity, this could be a resounding blow for the south below the belly button.
For political analyst, the ordeals of the embattled National chairman of the All progressive Congress goes beyond the cries from a section of his party towards his dictatorial tendencies, the accusations of godfatherism or the cries of incompetence. Adams Oshiomhole may be anything but incompetent. That’s an undeniable fact that even his worst critics will corroborate.
The outcry for the removal of Adams Oshiomhole has everything to do with the schemes and “Politricks” ahead of the 2023 general elections. In the build up to the 2019 elections, the scheming, counter scheming, and intrigues that played out gave a clear vision towards what’s ahead for the south, some people cried out to the southern leaders, but all the calls for caution was thrown to the winds. For the
southern political class, their personal ambitions are worth the cries, tears and blood of the entire region.
As much I would like to sympathize with them on their ordeals, I’m also eager to shout at the top of my voice that “It serves them right.”History has taught us that the southern region are poor students of history, otherwise why would anyone who witnessed what played out between 1965-1967,1983-1985,1993 and most recently 2010-2015 still sit down round a negotiating table with the North, with the hopes that the power-drunk north will willfully cede powers back to them? It did not happen in time past, and it’s almost certain that it won’t happen in the nearest future. At least, not with those who have shown that they’re over-ambitious for power.Call it what you wish, but it is wise counsel that you should not cede power to any man who has shown so much ambitions towards it. It’s logical, it’s common sense.
Back to the ordeals of Adams oshiomhole, it is imperative that we change the narratives from what we see with our ordinary eyes, to what we see with our inner eyes. Adams Oshiomhole is only taking the blows currently shot at Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who happens to be the ceremonial National leader of the All progressive Congress, who also happens to be cuvetting the revered seat of the president. In truth, Tinubu paid his dues and as such, he deserves the respect and loyalty of his party men(Even though I’m strongly against his presidential ambition).
For many onlookers, the travails of Oshiomhole started from his feud with his successor in Edo state, but that is not the case. The travails of Oshiomhole started the very day Oyegun was ousted and replaced with Oshiomhole. While Tinubu was basking in victory for ousting the then Chairman of the party who happens to share a different political sentiment from Tinubu and would therefore not bend to the whims and caprices of the ceremonial national leader, unknown to Tinubu, he let his jokers out too soon. By installing Oshiomhole as National chairman, his chances became brighter and the north became more prepared.
The North, through the help of Our southern brothers started the post 2019 schemes by first of all Relegating Senator Rochas Okorocha to the back seat, a man who has also shown his desires at one day becoming the president of this nation. Next, they came for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, through the help of his own atrocities and the EFCC, he was sent to jail along with his presidential ambitions.Afterwards,it was time to break the wings of the vice president, a man who’s reputation and integrity was gaining some much popularity even within the core northern states. The cabals descended heavily on him, corruption cases and accusations, he was removed from the economic team, and ridiculed at every chance they got. While all these was going on, the ceremonial National leader of the party stayed mute even though he is the political father of the vice president. After all, the vice presidents antecedents were becoming a serious threat to his political ambitions. Unknown to him, it was only a matter of time before it gets to his most revered asset. The National Chairman of his party, and his surest bet to clinching the presidential ticket of the All progressive Congress.
Getting Adams oshiomhole to fall for the bait was easy as he is known to be a man that never runs away from a fight. He fights to finish.
Even though most of his followers love him for his combative nature, this was exactly what the north exploited and got him trapped. As at today, I dare to say that Oshiomhole has more enemies within his party than outside his party. A wise man should learn to select his battles. Sometimes, learn to move a way from a battle you’ll win resoundingly just because you want to avoid getting stained by your victims blood.
If Obaseki were to be Oshiomhole’s Challenger, I dare to say the battle would have been won long ago, and Obaseki would have been on his knees by now. As intelligent and crafty as Oshiomhole can be, he fell cheaply, believing he was wagging a war against his political godson, unknown to him, he was Wagging a war against the northern oligarchs, who see him as the easiest channel through which Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu would realize his presidential ambition.
This tussle goes beyond personal ego’s and interest, this tussle is a war for the survival of the south in the Nigerian political space and Adams Oshiomhole happens to be the one paying dearly for the ambitions of another man, or subtly put, he’s paying the price for the ambitions of the south. In Africa, while we do not spare the rod and spoil the child, we also use the left hand to draw the child close to our bosom while scolding him with the right.
For this reason, and for the general interest of the southern Nigeria, I call on all and sundry from the south, be you Igbo, Yoruba, Edo, Ibibio,Efik,Urhobo,Itsekiri or Ijaw to sheath their sword, suspend their ambitions for now, pause all political permutations and sit on a round table. We cannot continue to allow the north exploit our disunity and greed to the detriment of the entire south. Let’s put an end to this age-long political ridicule that the south has suffered in the hands of the north. Stop the in-house fighting, stop making it easy for the north, drop your prides and ego’s, for once, let’s put the interest of the south first, above anything else. If we could come up with a consensus resolution on the security challenges bedevelling the south, I believe we can also come up with a political resolution to end this northern dominance.
Let’s start by saving Adams Oshiomhole from the looming National disgrace.
