About a year ago today, one 7-year old Nigerian schoolgirl from Delta state, Success Adegor, became an internet sensation as she ranted in a viral video that she preferred to be flogged like a stubborn goat than to be kicked out of school due to lack of school fees.
This little girl who spoke flawless Pidgin English language displayed “fight-to-finish” attitude to be in school against all odds.
“No be say I no go pay o. Dem go dey pursue person. Instead of them to flog person, dem go dey pursue person. Dem go flog me, the cane e go taya…dey go taya for flogging. As dem say dem stubborn, I tell dem say I stubborn pass dem.”
What happened next to this “lucky” little girl? Politicians and celebrities started looking for her. Even Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa instantly approved the contract to renovate her dilapidated school, Okotie-Eboh Primary School 1, Sapele.
It is an open secret that dogs and cats of Nigerian politicians won’t attend this little girl’s dilapidated school. Delta state as an oil-producing state but ordinary people cannot feel the positive impact of the oil wealth. That’s another topic for another day.
If Success “Akorede” Adegor did not rant in that viral video, Delta state government won’t renovate her school? But why?
To cut the long story short, Success Adegor was able to secure a scholarship up to the university level because of this “Dem go flog me taya” video. Praise Da Lord! Halleluyah!
Let’s fast-forward to this current COVID-19 era and the viral video of another Abeokuta-based grandmother(Mama Igboore) who was ready to work as a part-time prostitute just to earn N500(less than $2) to feed herself and children.
What happened next to Mama Igboore after this threat to become a prostitute with her Arugbo Ara? You may need to ask Google for details!
Mama Igboore probably used a spiritually-coded soap(Ose Awure) to bath on the day the “sex-for-money” video was released to social media.
Mama Igboore is now the latest “celebrity” in town, the human barometer to measure the poverty pressure of the vulnerable elders in Nigeria.
We have many vulnerable people in abject poverty in Nigeria, Mama Igboore is just one out of the millions.Yes.
The Deputy Governor of Ogun state( Madam Noimot Salako-Oyedele) also visited Mama Igboore yesterday, not to campaign for any election but to donate some essential items. That’s Wabilahi Taofeek according to Muslims.
Mama Igboore won’t taste hunger again until her last day on earth with the available funds. That’s the bitter truth. Many Nigerians reached out to this old woman. THANK YOU!
Mama Igboore must also help her “comrades” and friends to taste from this COVID-19 welfare package. Mama must not chop alone! Nobody knows tomorrow of anybody!
To win the sympathy from fellow Nigerians, just do a real video choreographing the abject poverty level in the country and donations must hit your bank accounts back-to-back.
If possible, threaten to go to any length to make money in the video, you’ll surely see generous Nigerians to help you.
The UK University of the year also financially empowered some students to pull through this COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you, the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. Strathclyde till I die!!!
In conclusion, we shall pull through this COVID-19 crisis any moment from now. We cannot give up right now. Stay protected! Wash your hands and be extra-vigilant.
