The ceremony was witnessed by Sons and Daughters of the land.
The traditional rites commenced after the approval by the State Government. On Wednesday 19th, August, 2020. Around 3pm, the Olu Agboyi was received by a large crowd, singing and dancing with immeasurable joy and happiness at Orioke roundabout, Agboyiland.
The new Oba then proceeded to the burial grounds of his late parents before the continuation of the installation process. The Olu of Agboyi, Oba Monsuru Abimbola Adekanmbi Oladega Akinmasa I, robed in white attire and a nose mask in line with the guidelines of the COVID-19 pandemic, was
ushered into the palace for traditional messages by the Osugbos in order to complete the Ipebi rites they started some days ago.
The Osugbos were busily engaged in Gbedu drumming while the Kingmakers were busy with the ceremonial duties related to the crowning of the Olu Agboyi. The official seat (Apere) was offered to the king.
The Oba then took his seat at the Ojú Egun amidst cheers and shouts of “Alaiyeluwa”, as the sound of the Gbedu drum serenades the atmosphere. Next was the dance of the Osugbos and Kingmakers.
After proper talks, the final rites which included the official capping of white-cap (Keremesi) and other privates rites were done till the following day, Thursday, 20th August, 2020. At about 2:30am, the Oba was crowned with the traditional beaded crown (Ade Iwure) at Oju Egun, the official site for Ipebi after he had completed the essential rites as the new Oba.
He wore a flowing Aran cloth, and the Kingmakers now shouted Kabiesi three times repeatedly, and they told him that he is the Oba Alaselori Ilu ati awọn Oriṣa. The chiefs were also in their customary regalia as well as the Oshugbos.
At the Palace, dancing continued till about 3:30am. The Osugbos and Afobajes (King Makers) started with the Oba in performing Ikanse, the ceremonies rites round the town at about 19 various sites (Ojubos) till about 4am when Olu Agboyi played the Iwure drum, and all other drummers stopped drumming.
By 2pm, Thursday 20th of August, 2020, HRM. Oba Monsuru Abimbola Adekanmbi Oladega Akinmasa I, the 4th Olu of Agboyi I, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA was addressed (Apero) in the presence of the sons and daughters, guests and other visitors at Ebute-Oko in Agboyi I, Agboyi land, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.
