Contrary to the misconceptions and misperceptions by some politicians that the role of women in today’s society is in the Kitchen, and other rooms, however, the elevation of 6 Nigeria Female as Managing Director of the banking sector has proved otherwise.
The 2017 elective post in Kosofe Local Government and the 6th Legislative Arm was strictly men’s affairs.
While among the 25 political appointment made by the out gone Chairman, Mr. Afolabi Sofola, it was only the Honourable Supervisory Councilor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) position left for hundreds of women in politics.
These precedent has been further sustained by the ruling party,All Progressives Congress by fielding only 9 male for Chairman, Vice Chairman and 7 Councilors seat for the recently concluded Kosofe 2021 LG Election.
The only opportunity now left for the women are the positions yet to be announced such as SLG, Chief of staff, Supervisory Councilors, SSAs, SAs, Board appointment among others.
Consequently, seeing more women in the new administration occupying sizeable positions will potray Kosofe Local Government as women friendly Government.
The Immediate past Chairman, Sofola can not be entirely blamed over the discrimination against the women. However, the party and Political leaders who are the decision makers are liable as result of their disadvantaged decision that impugned on the image and reputation of the Executive chairman.
However, the newly sworn in Executive Chairman of Kosofe LG, Moyo Ogunlewe and the party leaders should endeavor to give women their rightful position in the composition of the new cabinet.
