LGNA sharpens Council Treasurers skill set in Lagos

LGNA sharpens Conference 57 Council Treasurers in Lagos State skill set at a Two Day organized Seminar held in Lagos last week.

Council Treasurers as Financial Advisers to the Local Governments; practical areas of responsibility, IPSAS Accrual Financial Statements; and Understanding CBN eNaira and its risks was day one focused of seminar.

Project Management and investment appraisal in LGs and Stress Management held second of the seminar.

The seminar Parades seasoned facilitators such as Rev. McEwen Lamai FCA, Mr Badmos Shuaib Babalola, Rev Olu Badejo, Mr. Hassan Akeem B and Dr. Ifu Godwin was organized by LGNA who organization who is at the forefronts of promoting good governance in public administration in Nigeria.

The lead facilitator Rev. McEwen Lamai implored the CTs to advise their various Local Government accordingly.

The CTs were urged to assume the role of Secretary of Revenue Committee and to counsel their Local Governments that finance management law is subject to FM. They’re in charge of the receipt, according to Rev. McEwen Lamai.

To blockage Revenue leakages were urged to give Revenue Collection, Lagos State Government approach with the evidence of IPSA.

The CTs were further advised to lecture their various Council on the advantage of using E-Naira.

The council Treasurers applauded the Managing Director of LGNA, Tunde Jakande for putting such professional capacity building geared towards discharging their responsibilities effectively.

Speaking on his take home from the Two-Day in depth seminar for council treasurers of all the Local government councils in Lagos, Mr. Babalola Badmus Council Treasurer of Odiolowo Ojuwoye Lcda said to continuous give wealth of professional experience and advice into the job. He noted most times often they are willing to listen and abide the advice.

Badmus said his high points as Council Treasurer were trying to balance the civil Service work with political interference and expedience. ” Some of these things want to hamper on job and professional calling, but one is able to sail through such situations.

He further advised LGNA to sustain the tempo and improve by getting a wider coverage. He added, “Doing more of these and getting certain endorsements such that some of these programmes will be owned by Commissions and other appropriate agencies of Government to partner with them more in a formal way.”

Badmus who is also a facilitator at the training said one of the major high point of the training masterclass speaks directly to their job.” It’s not a talk show, It’s not just off the shelves is something that relates to our job. It’s discussion that affects our job directly, not theoretical training is a practical one that addresses core function of our job, and we are able to make use of the opportunity.”
