The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been lauded for the efficiency and speed of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) technology deployed during the recently concluded Lagos State House of Assembly election. Hon. Femi Saheed, who represents Kosofe constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, expressed his satisfaction with the new technology after he cast his vote on Saturday.
Saheed, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noted the significant improvement in the exercise compared to the previous presidential and National Assembly elections.
He said it took him almost five to six minutes to cast his vote during the presidential election, but this time, the process took less than three minutes, indicating a marked improvement in the timing and efficiency of the electoral process.
Speaking on the voters’ apathy, the lawmaker noted that his voting area was peaceful, and there was a significant turnout.
He highlighted the landmark projects he had facilitated within a stipulated time of one year and assured his constituents of bigger ones when re-elected.
Hon. Femi Saheed urged his constituents to keep faith with the APC, assuring them of unprecedented representation that everyone would benefit from.
He expressed his pride in delivering efficient and effective representation and called on his constituents to support the party to achieve more successes in the future.
The BVAS technology, which combines facial recognition with fingerprint biometrics, was introduced by INEC in 2020 to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the electoral process.
The technology has been deployed in several states in Nigeria, including Lagos State, and has received positive feedback from stakeholders, including political parties and voters.
