Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye, a lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Lagos State has cautioned non-indigenes contesting for political offices in Lagos to know their limits.

Speaking on the sidelines of the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections on Saturday in Kosofe, Lagos, the lawmaker stated that non-indigenes should not take what belongs to the indigenes of Lagos State away from them.

Agunsoye said that Lagosians are liberal and accommodating, but this does not give non-indigenes the right to take what belongs to them.

He wondered what interest non-indigenes have in Lagos, a state that is referred to as the nerve center of Nigeria.

The lawmaker noted that he could not go to the North or East and contest for political office, just as Lagosians cannot go to the East or North to contest for a local government chairman position. He accused the Igbos of not even selling their lands to non-indigenes in the East.

Agunsoye said that the recent occurrence in Lagos, where non-indigenes are allowed to contest for political offices, is a wake-up call to Lagosians. He urged Lagosians to come together and do something about it after the election.

On election matters, Agunsoye observed that people came out to cast their votes, but there was still voter apathy. He noticed that a few people were still eager to cast their votes and demonstrated their interest in Lagos.

The lawmaker said that people were out to cast their votes for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and that officials had improved on what happened in the last elections.
