The Executive Chairman of Agboyi Ketu LCDA, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, has taken steps to prevent flooding in the area by commencing the annual desilting exercise of canals across the council. The announcement was made on Monday, emphasizing the council’s people-oriented administration’s commitment to the safety and well-being of the residents.

According to the statement, the desilting exercise is a precautionary measure to ensure that water does not reach a threatening level during the peak period of this year’s monsoon season. The council has secured the services of a swamp buggy to ensure that all drainage channels are opened up to allow water to flow freely into the river.

Last year, in May 2022, the council carried out desilting of canals across Agboyi Ketu LCDA to mitigate the effects of the peak of the rainy season, which coincided with the annual Oyan Dam releases. This year’s desilting exercise aims to make Agboyi-Ketu LCDA flood-free in 2023 and beyond.

The council is urging residents to cooperate with the workers carrying out the exercise to ensure the success of the project. The desilting of canals is crucial in preventing flooding in the area, and the council’s efforts are geared towards ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents.
