In a goodwill message to commemorate the 2023 Democracy Day, Prince Bidemi Akintunde conveyed his warm regards to President Bola Tinubu, hailing him as one of the courageous fighters who played a pivotal role in the establishment of democracy in Nigeria.
Addressing the public in Lagos on Monday, Akintunde expressed his admiration for Tinubu’s deep understanding of democratic principles, norms, and intricacies. He commended the president for his willingness and courage to lead Nigeria into the future.
Akintunde emphasized that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria would witness an aversion to divisiveness, the fight against nepotism, ethnic and religious bigotry, as well as government indifference and insensitivity towards the plight of the people. The prince also highlighted the need to address the glaring injustice of unequal distribution of opportunities and national wealth.
In his address, Akintunde recognized the historical significance of June 12, 1993, beyond merely mentioning the name of the late Chief MKO Abiola. He underscored the importance of this date as a milestone in the nation’s history and its significance among the Nigerian people.
The prince commended President Tinubu for his firm and bold decisions, which he believes exemplify a leader who is willing to take tough actions for the greater good of the populace. Akintunde also expressed gratitude to the heroes of democracy across the country, acknowledging their struggles and the benefits that have been achieved as a result.
Furthermore, Akintunde stressed the importance of having a leader who is resolute and decisive in policy formulation, implementation, and declarations to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends and accountability to the Nigerian people.
In concluding his message, Akintunde urged all levels of government, from federal to state and local, to work with patriotism and determination in order to build the Nigeria of their collective dreams.
