Imam Alli Bolaji Atunrase of the NASFAT Islamic Centre, Ota Ona annex, Ikoeodu, expressed his views on the relationship dynamics between husbands and wives during Jumat service on Friday. The Imam stated that it is a blessed act for a wife to hand over her ATM card and account details to her husband, drawing a connection to the Prophet Muhammad’s wife, Khadijah.

Imam Atunrase highlighted the example of Khadijah, revered by Muslims as “The Mother of Believers.” He cited her role as a merchant and explained that she had offered her financial resources to the Prophet Muhammad when they married.

The Imam’s remarks seemed to be directed at affluent housewives who may control substantial financial assets. He encouraged women to consider giving their debit cards, also known as ATM cards, to their husbands. However, this unexpected admonition prompted a burst of laughter from both male and female worshippers in the congregation.

The moment of levity during the Jumat service shed light on differing perspectives regarding financial responsibilities within marriages. While some found the Imam’s statement amusing, others may have viewed it as an opportunity for introspection and discussion regarding spousal financial dynamics.

It is worth noting that discussions on financial matters within relationships vary across cultures and individuals, and personal choices differ based on numerous factors such as trust, mutual agreements, and shared responsibilities.

The laughter that ensued following Imam Atunrase’s statement emphasized the lightheartedness of the moment. It serves as a reminder of the diverse interpretations and opinions that can arise within religious communities, prompting open dialogue and reflection.

As the Jumat service continued, worshippers immersed themselves in prayers and further teachings, leaving behind the momentary amusement sparked by the Imam’s unexpected viewpoint on spousal financial arrangements.
