Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who had defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2023 general elections have begun to return to their parent party, the APC. In Kosofe, specifically, supporters of Hon. Lanre Carew, who contested the Kosofe constituency 1 seat under the SDP, have initiated subtle moves to reconcile with APC chieftains and leaders in a bid to bridge the gap within the party.

Unlike the Labour Party candidate who is currently challenging the election results, Carew accepted the outcome of the election. He was spotted attending the presidential inauguration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he was seen alongside the winner of the Kosofe Constituency 1 election, Hon. Sanni Ganiu Okanlawon’s son, Habeeb Sanni. Carew’s engagement continued as he visited the office of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The return of SDP members to the APC in Kosofe may face different challenges. While Okanlawon, who faced the backlash of the anti-candidate movement, reportedly attended a pre-reconciliation meeting, the situation in Ikosi Isheri LCDA proved to be more complex.

Hon. Moruf Adeleye, the SDP candidate for Kosofe constituency 2, wasted no time in reaching out to the party leadership, including Hon. Femi Saheed, a member of the House of Assembly representing Kosofe constituency, expressing his intention to reunite with the APC. Adeleye joined the faction led by Otunba Seyi Odufowokan.

Recent reports by The Kosofe Post highlighted Odufowokan’s claim to be the Chairman of Ikosi Isheri APC. However, a member of the Governor Advisory Council and APC chieftain, Omooba Ademuyiwa Sosanya, declared that neither he nor Otunba Bushira Alebiosu recognized Odufowokan’s faction of the party.
