In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion and streamline the movement of goods and services, the Lagos State Government is set to launch its state-of-the-art Electronic Queuing Management System (EQMS) on the bustling Lekki-Epe Corridor. The trial run of this revolutionary system is scheduled to take place from September 4 to September 30, marking a significant step towards transforming transportation in the region.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, revealed that the EQMS is tailored to address congestion and enhance the motoring experience for both truck drivers and commuters along the corridor. By harnessing intelligent algorithms and cutting-edge technology, the system aims to efficiently allocate resources and minimize waiting times for trucks.
During the pilot phase, the EQMS will collect crucial data and insights that will play a pivotal role in shaping the full-scale implementation of the e-call up system. Toriola emphasized that this advanced solution underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to revolutionizing transportation in Lagos State. The transformative impact of this initiative is expected to foster economic growth and establish a more sustainable and efficient transportation network.
Toriola articulated, “EQMS is poised to revolutionize truck traffic management by providing real-time insights and actionable data for optimizing truck movement within the Lekki-Epe axis.” The collaboration with a leading transportation management solutions provider underscores the government’s determination to deploy innovative technology for the benefit of the public.
The EQMS will leverage advanced technology to optimize traffic flow, enhance operational efficiency, and bolster road safety. Toriola further highlighted that the government has collaborated extensively with key stakeholders in the transportation and maritime sectors to ensure the seamless integration of truck drivers into the EQMS. This collaborative approach involves close coordination with organizations such as the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Petroleum Tanker Drivers, and the National Association of Road Transport Owners. By fostering strong industry partnerships and prioritizing safety measures, the government aims to ensure the success of this transformational endeavor.
