In response to recent incidents in his community, the Kekeniju of Oworonshoki land, Chief Kabir Bashir Oloruntoyin, has issued a stern warning to bloggers who distort facts and spread fake news. The cautionary message was conveyed through a press statement released by his media office.
Chief Kabir Bashir expressed his concern over the spread of misinformation and disinformation in his community and the potential for such news to incite confusion and destabilization. He asserted that strong actions would be taken against any blogger or online platform that allowed itself to be used as an agent of confusion within the community.
The statement addressed a specific incident that had been reported on a blog called “dior_imperial_media.” The blog had claimed that an unidentified man was found dead in an Oworonshoki apartment belonging to Prince Kabiru Bashiru. According to the story, officers from Alonge Police Station in Miyaki were contacted by Prince KB’s tenant to move the deceased to the mortuary, and there were unconfirmed reports of the FCID Panti taking over the case for further investigation.
The media office of Chief Kabir Bashir sought to clarify the facts surrounding the incident and counter the misrepresentations made in the published story. They stated that the deceased had been suffering from kidney failure and had been undergoing dialysis treatment at LUTH, Idi Araba, since July 2022. Medical records and documents corroborated this information, as confirmed by family members, especially the deceased’s younger brother, Mr. Chinedu Alaibe, who had been providing care throughout the health crisis, incurring substantial expenses exceeding N2 million.
The statement further pointed out that the family had been covering the cost of dialysis at N38,500 per week, and they were even contemplating selling a family property in Abia State to cover the expenses before the unfortunate passing of the deceased. The family expressed gratitude to Chief Kabir Bashir for his support during the deceased’s illness and after his death.
Regarding the incident, the statement clarified that the police and health officials were present at the scene to handle the deceased’s remains. The police had to forcibly enter the locked room, as the deceased had a habit of locking himself inside. The Kekeniju does not reside in the property where the incident occurred and promptly reported the event to the appropriate authorities upon learning of it.
The media office concluded by advising that the matter be reported accurately and responsibly, without inciting the public or the community against the Kekeniju Opemoluwa of Oworo land. They warned against further misinformation, disinformation, or the spread of fake news from the platform in question, expressing their readiness to cooperate with security agencies and handle any future issues legally.
