In a bid to enhance critical infrastructure and provide improved service to its valued customers in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Nigeria’s leading Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), has successfully replaced a faulty 15MVA power transformer at the Sabo Injection Substation (ISS) with a new one.

The Chief Technical Officer of Ikeja Electric, Engr. Olajide Kumapayi, explained that the replacement of the defective power transformer, which came at a cost of approximately Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N250m), was essential to address the longstanding issue of poor power supply experienced by over fifteen thousand customers served by power transformer one (T1) at the Sabo Injection Substation before it malfunctioned completely.

The replacement is expected to significantly increase the availability of power supply, extending it from the previous three hours to a minimum of twelve hours daily, depending on the service band tariff class associated with the feeders.

Engr. Kumapayi highlighted that nine 11kv feeders are supplied from the Sabo Injection Substation through the two power transformers, benefiting communities such as Ayangburen, Lasunwon, Lagos Road, Marie, Ladega, Erunwen, Igbogbo, Ijebu-Ode, Eyita, and their environs.

Furthermore, he announced that construction of a new Injection Substation at the Lagos State University of Technology (LASUTECH) in Ikorodu will commence soon. This development will provide one dedicated 11kv feeder for LASUTECH and two additional feeders to alleviate pressure on Erunwen and Ijebu-Ode 11kv feeders connected to the Sabo Injection Substation. These investments are expected to optimize technical assets and enhance power availability across all affected feeders, aligning with the company’s commitment to meeting customer demands.

Kingsley Okotie, the Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric, reiterated the company’s dedication to improving service delivery across its entire network coverage area. He expressed gratitude to vigilant customers, community leaders, and security personnel for their continued efforts in safeguarding electrical equipment against theft, vandalism, and sabotage. Such collaborative efforts are essential for achieving the goal of providing consistent and sustainable power to livelihoods, businesses, and communities.

Okotie encouraged customers to take advantage of the new IE Payment Website (www.ie-payments.com) for seamless payment solutions and explore the multifunctional smartKYC@ikejaelectric.com platform, along with other official channels for resolving complaints via phone at: 01-7000-250, 01-227-2940, or by sending an email to customercare@ikejaelectric.com.
