Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party candidate for the Lagos State governorship election, has firmly rejected the verdict of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which validated the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Rhodes-Vivour, in a press statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Olubunmi Odesanya, declared the party’s dismay at the judgment and expressed their intention to seek justice at the Court of Appeal.
The Lagos Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal delivered its verdict on Monday, dismissing the petitions filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and the Labour Party, as well as Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor of the People’s Democratic Party. These petitions had challenged the victory of Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the March 18 governorship election.
In a statement issued by the Labour Party, they conveyed their profound disappointment with the tribunal’s judgment. They encouraged their supporters to remain calm while the legal team reviews the judgment and prepares for an appeal at the Appellate Court.
The statement read: “Our firm belief is that Labour Party won the election in spite of the harassment, intimidation, and harm done to our members, the Obidients, and supporters across the state. This delayed justice will be rightfully regained at the fullness of time.”
The Labour Party vowed to explore all available legal means to rectify what they perceive as an injustice done to the majority of Lagosians. They expressed their gratitude to their loyal supporters and the people of Lagos for their unwavering commitment and support as they continue their pursuit of justice.
