An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State has sentenced a trader, Yusuf Dauda, to clean the court premises for 20 hours for his involvement in the theft of a bag of onions. Dauda was brought before the court on charges of conspiracy and theft, along with co-accused Moses Enumah.

During the proceedings, Dauda pleaded guilty to the charges, while Enumah maintained his innocence. Following this, Magistrate O.A. Daodu handed down the unique sentence, ordering Dauda to engage in 20 hours of community service cleaning the court premises. The exact timing and duration of this service would be at the discretion of the designated officer.

According to the prosecution counsel, Insp Bassey Sunday, the theft occurred on September 30 at around 3:00 pm in the Mile 12 Market located in Ketu, Lagos. Both suspects were apprehended by market security personnel when the victims raised the alarm.

The charges against Dauda and Enumah were brought under the provisions of sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Magistrate Daodu granted Enumah bail in the amount of N100,000 with two sureties of equal value. The case has been adjourned until November 10 for further proceedings.
