Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Community Affairs at the Lagos State House of Assembly, paid a visit on Friday to the victims of a recent building demolition in the Oworonshoki community in a demonstration of empathy and support.
During the visit, he shared in the residents’ pains and provided a generous cash donation of N500,000 to assist those affected while awaiting the resolutions of the Lagos State Assembly.
The displaced residents, who have been grappling with the aftermath of the demolition, warmly received the legislator’s visit and expressed their heartfelt appreciation for his compassion and monetary contribution. The visit offered a ray of hope and support for those affected by the unfortunate incident.
The Lagos State House of Assembly had recently formed an ad hoc committee to assess the situation in the Mosafejo Oworonshoki community, where the Lagos State Task Force carried out building demolitions, leaving some residents without homes. The committee, led by Mr. Nureni Akinsanya, Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected area.
Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, who is part of the committee, played an instrumental role in advocating for the affected residents. He had previously raised a “Matter of Urgent Public Importance” on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly to halt further demolition of houses in the Oworonshoki area of Kosofe 01. His visit and financial support are part of ongoing efforts to provide relief to those affected by the unfortunate demolitions.
