Former councillorship aspirant of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward B, Honorable Samsondeen Ali, met a tragic end as he was brutally attacked by thugs claiming to be landowners on Saturday.

The assailants, identified as Nurudeen Suraju and Lukmon Taiwo, also known as Bobalabe, confronted Hon. Ali at his residence on Aralamo Street. The motive behind the attack was reportedly linked to a dispute over land ownership. Hon. Ali, who was in the process of erecting a fence for security reasons, faced demands from the attackers to pay N5,000 before proceeding with the construction.

In a horrifying turn of events, the assailants assaulted Hon. Ali with a shovel and a plank, targeting his head and chest. The severity of the attack led to the victim slumping. Urgently, he was transported to Afolabi Medical Hospital in Suraju’s vehicle. However, Suraju fled the scene, leaving his car behind when medical professionals advised transferring the victim to another hospital.

The incident unfolded in the presence of Mrs. Ajanlekoko, the mother-in-law of the deceased, who revealed that the Omo Onile had been harassing and threatening her family since the demolition of their community. She accused them of physical assault, spiritual attacks, and ultimately, the fatal assault on Hon. Ali. Mrs. Ajanlekoko passionately called for justice from the government, urging the arrest and prosecution of the culprits. She pointed out Mrs. Silifa, known as Iya-Agan, as the elder sister of the assailant, Suraju.

Hon. Ali, survived by his wife and young children, now faces an uncertain future with the loss of their breadwinner. As the community mourns, the police have initiated an investigation into the case, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
