Two prominent online publishers, Bilesanmi Abayomi of Kosofe Post and Olalekan Lawal of Kosofe Insideout, have recently made the decision to relocate to the UK for skilled work and personal development followng the challenging economic landscape in Nigeria.

The economic challenges in Nigeria have prompted a growing number of individuals, including local government aides and residents from Kosofe Local Government, Agboyi Ketu, and Ikosi-Isheri LCDAs, to seek opportunities in different parts of Europe.

Despite the physical relocation, the management teams of Kosofe Post and Kosofe Insideout continue to sustain their reporting on local issues, showcasing a commitment to keeping their audience informed.

However, the impending immigration policy changes set to take effect in 2024 may pose challenges for those considering a similar move. From January 1, 2024, new policies will restrict students from sponsoring dependents, except for those pursuing a PhD. Additionally, the minimum income threshold for individuals sponsoring family members is increasing significantly, potentially making it more difficult for families to bring dependents.

This development aligns with a larger trend, as Canada has also increased proof of funds for student visas by 1000 percent, imposing stricter conditions.

In response to the rising trend of Nigerian youths seeking opportunities abroad, a group known as the Eternal Youth Fellowship in Hotonu has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the increasing number of young Nigerians, commonly referred to as ‘japa’ in local parlance.
