The Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Samiat Bada, celebrated her 50th birthday at Highpoint Event Center, Ikeja, on Thursday, donning a controversial Aso Ebi attire worth a staggering N650,000. The extravagant celebration, however, has ignited public anger, especially in light of recent allegations of abuse of power and financial excesses.

A recent Kosofe Post opinion piece shed light on the coercive practices of public office holders, revealing that employees were compelled to purchase party uniforms and bear sundry expenses. Following the publication, the Nigeria Police Area H Command, Ogudu, issued an invitation to the journalist, which was later downplayed during a surprising encounter with ACP Sanusi Mohammed, suggesting an ulterior motive.

The controversy further deepened as civil servants filed a viral petition over perceived abuse of power and an extravagant lifestyle. Mayoress Samiat Bada, during a World press conference held a few months ago, vehemently denied the allegations, attributing the expensive Aso Ebi to the event planner and disavowing any coercion of staff to purchase the attire. However, conflicting reports emerged as some staff openly expressed solidarity with the Council Chairman.

Journalists who reported on the lavish Aso Ebi faced threats, raising concerns about the freedom of the press. Residents are questioning the sustainability of Mayoress Bada’s extravagant lifestyle given the economic challenges faced by those she governs, particularly in the aftermath of the federal government’s petrol subsidy removal.

As the controversy unfolds, the key question on the minds of concerned residents is whether Mayoress Samiat Bada can maintain such a lavish lifestyle with multiple Chieftaincy Titles and extravagant birthday parties solely from her personal earnings, or if it reflects an inherent connection to the corridors of power.
