The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for good governance after the Supreme Court landmark judgments on various governorship tussles.
The National Chairman of IPAC, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, made the demand in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.
Dantalle congratulated all parties who emerged victorious in the recent Supreme Court judgments on governorship elections.e
He congratulated governors Abba Yusuf of Kano State, Caleb Muftwang of Plateau, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Alex Otti of Abia on their affirmed mandates.
Dantalle also appreciated other candidates and their parties who in spite not attaining victory, accepted the court’s pronouncements with maturity and grace.
He commended their commitment to upholding the rule of law and prioritising the stability of the Nigerian democracy.
While congratulating the victorious governors, he however advised them to embrace the spirit of magnanimity in their moments of triumph.
He encouraged them to reach out to all stakeholders, irrespective of their political affiliations, and build bridges of unity and inclusivity within their states.
Dantalle emphasised the urgency of shifting focus from litigation to the critical task of governance.
He reminded the governors of their primary responsibility to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people who entrusted them with their mandate.
He urged them to prioritise addressing the pressing concerns of their constituents, such as security, economic development, job creation and infrastructural development.
“The Supreme Court pronouncements mark a significant milestone in the resolution of governorship election disputes in Nigeria.
“IPAC’s call for magnanimity, unity and a focus on governance underscores the importance of prioritising the well-being of the Nigerian people and strengthening the nation’s democratic institutions.
“As the country moves forward, it is crucial for all stakeholders to remain committed to peaceful dialogue, collaboration and the delivery of tangible benefits to the citizens,” he said.
Besides, Dantalle commended all political stakeholders and their supporters for maintaining peace and decorum throughout the legal processes and in the aftermath of the Supreme Court pronouncements.
He attributed this positive outcome to the collective commitment to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law.
Dantalle reiterated IPAC’s unwavering commitment to promoting peaceful and credible elections, fostering inter-party dialogue and cooperation, and advocating for good governance across the country.
He pledged IPAC’s continued support to all stakeholders in working towards a more vibrant and inclusive Nigerian democracy. (NAN)
