The Joint Action for Good Governance (JAGG) in a move towards environmental responsibility commends the Lagos State government for its proactive initiative in banning Styrofoam. In a joint letter signed by Adekunle Aderibigbe – General Secretary and Abdulwaheed Odunuga – Vice President of JAGG, the organization urges the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration to implement a comprehensive ban on Styrofoam.

JAGG emphasizes the global need to mitigate the adverse effects of non-biodegradable materials on the environment, recognizing Styrofoam as a major contributor to pollution with significant threats to ecosystems, wildlife, and public health. The commendable action by Lagos State is seen as a commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of its residents.

“We strongly believe that this commendable action by Lagos State should serve as an inspiration for other states to follow suit,” states the Joint Action for Good Governance. The organization calls on the Federal Government to consider a nationwide ban on Styrofoam, highlighting the importance of a cohesive and effective approach to address environmental challenges.

The implications of such a ban extend beyond Lagos State, impacting neighboring states and contributing to regional and global efforts to reduce plastic pollution. JAGG stresses the interconnected nature of ecosystems and the necessity for a unified approach to achieve lasting positive effects.

Expressing appreciation for media coverage of environmental issues and positive government actions, JAGG calls on platforms to amplify the call for a nationwide Styrofoam ban, fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly future for the nation.
