Comrade Olayiwola Sulaiman, popularly known as Opomulero, has intensified his opposition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal for local government autonomy. In an exclusive chat with KosofePost online on Thursday morning, Opomulero alleged inconsistencies in Tinubu’s stance on the issue.
Opomulero highlighted that the Lagos State House of Assembly, under Tinubu’s influence during the Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) regime, voted against local government financial and administrative autonomy. He questioned the sudden shift in Tinubu’s position now that he is president, asking, “What changed under PMB and Tinubu now that the same Tinubu is now saying that is the right way to go?”
He further described President Tinubu’s one-year tenure as a “woeful performance,” citing the deteriorating living conditions as evidence of Tinubu’s political maneuvering. Opomulero expressed concerns that Tinubu might be using the local government autonomy issue to secure a second term. “With the woeful performance after one year in office and the current state of living, it is obvious that Tinubu is ready to use the gullible people’s desire to hookwind them again to get the 2nd term,” he said.
Opomulero likened Tinubu’s political tactics to a landlord manipulating a tenant by feigning acts of kindness while exploiting the tenant’s wife. “The Tinubu mastery of politics to me is a case of a landlord having an affair with a man’s wife but the husband, not knowing and shallow in mind, sees the landlord’s act of not giving them quick notice or telling him not to worry or even reducing his rent as an act of selflessness and humanity on the part of the landlord. This is what Tinubu did to us in Lagos,” he explained.
Supporting his arguments with a report titled “How Lagos, Rivers, Borno Others Voted Against LG Autonomy,” Opomulero raised the question, “Why now?” regarding Tinubu’s sudden advocacy for local government autonomy. He concluded by opposing the autonomy due to Tinubu’s history of undermining state opposition for his benefit, stating, “A good law is good in the hand of a good person.”
