In a recent investigation by KosofePost, the deteriorating state of road infrastructure in Olojojo Oworonshoki, under the jurisdiction of Kosofe Local Government, has come under scrutiny. The visit revealed significant concerns among residents and commuters alike.
The interlocked paving stones, a part of a public-private partnership (PPP) project between Zenith Bank and Kosofe Local Government, have deteriorated in several areas, causing severe disruptions to traffic flow. Initiated during the tenure of former Kosofe Local Government Chairman Babatunde Sofola, the project aimed to alleviate transportation challenges in the area by providing improved road access.
Zenith Bank, after overcoming prolonged land-related disputes, recently inaugurated its Olojojo Branch. While this has boosted commercial activities along the previously underserved access road, the deteriorated road conditions have exacerbated traffic congestion.
Residents, including opinion leader Omoba Rasheed Awofeso, voiced their frustrations over the situation. “The failed portions are demanding urgent attention,” Awofeso emphasized. “The resulting traffic gridlock is unacceptable given the economic importance of this route.”
Additionally, concerns extend beyond Oworonshoki. Uche Daniel JUMBO of Ogudu disclosed plans for repairs along the Ogudu-Ojota Road, another area affected by Zenith Bank’s operational impact. According to sources from the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), repairs are slated for completion by month-end.
In response to these challenges, road users, commuters, and motorists have collectively urged Zenith Bank and local authorities to prioritize repairs. The plea underscores the critical need for infrastructure maintenance to sustain the newfound economic activity in Oworonshoki and its surrounding areas.
