Samuel Adebayo Olanrewaju, President of the Succour for Health and Education Foundation, criticized the current state of governance in Nigeria during a recent interview with KosofePost. Olanrewaju argued that modern government should focus more on addressing the real needs of the people rather than just seeking power or popularity.
In his statement, Olanrewaju emphasized that government effectiveness is not measured by campaign slogans or political popularity but by how well it meets the basic needs of its citizens. He noted that despite significant achievements claimed by President Tinubu, many Nigerians still feel their fundamental needs are unmet. “Affordable food, security, and a supportive environment for daily activities are what the people need,” he said.
Olanrewaju also warned of potential unrest if the government does not respond effectively to the public’s concerns. He likened future protests driven by hunger to an uncontrollable “rage” and stressed that such unrest could surpass past movements like the #EndSARS protests.
He suggested that the government should shift its focus from short-term palliatives to long-term solutions, including boosting food production and addressing insecurity. According to Olanrewaju, while palliatives may have been effective during campaigns, they are not a sustainable solution for governance.
“The president needs to reevaluate his priorities and make tangible changes to address the real needs of the people,” he concluded.
