In his Independence Day message, Senator Mukhail Adeotkunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has called on Nigerians to remain resilient and hopeful in the face of the nation’s current challenges. He stressed that while difficult times persist, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Senator Abiru, who chairs the Southern Senator Forum and the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Financial Institutions, urged Nigerians to embrace the country’s diversity as a source of strength and progress. He advocated for unity, warning against divisive rhetoric and intolerance toward fellow citizens.
Acknowledging the socio-economic hardships currently experienced by many, Senator Abiru expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is steering the nation toward a brighter future through necessary, albeit tough, economic reforms. He emphasized that these bold policies are crucial to averting an impending collapse and ensuring long-term prosperity.
“Despite the challenges we face—whether economic, social, or political—Nigeria remains a beacon of hope and progress in Africa,” Abiru remarked. “Our strength lies in our diversity; our unity is our greatest asset. Now more than ever, we must come together and shun actions that widen our national fault lines.”
Senator Abiru also empathized with Nigerians affected by the economic policies, urging patience and understanding as the nation navigates these transformative times. He underscored that now is not the time to lose hope but rather to stand firm in the pursuit of a prosperous Nigeria.
“Together, with determination and a shared commitment to the future, we will rise above our challenges and build the Nigeria we all desire,” he concluded.
