Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos-East Senatorial District, has distributed 10,000 combo packs of food items to households in Ikorodu to celebrate the yuletide season.
The distribution, which took place on Monday at the senator’s Ikorodu constituency office, featured food packs containing 8kg of rice and 8kg of cassava flakes (garri). The initiative, targeting both party members and non-party members, is part of Abiru’s efforts to alleviate the economic challenges faced by residents, particularly during the festive season.
Abiru, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions and leads the Nigerian Southern Senators Forum, emphasized the significance of sharing and extending support during Christmas.
“We are in the season of love and sharing. Apart from it being a tradition to support our constituents, the Christmas period reminds us of the teachings of love and fellowship,” Abiru said.
The food palliative was distributed simultaneously across the five local government areas and 11 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within the Lagos-East Senatorial District. According to Abiru, the approach ensured orderliness and dignity in the distribution process.
The senator further highlighted that such initiatives have been a consistent part of his constituency engagement for the past 18 months, typically conducted on a quarterly basis.
Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), praised Abiru’s commitment to giving back to his constituency, especially amid prevailing economic challenges. He urged residents to prepare for the upcoming voter registration exercise in 2025 and secure their Permanent Voter Cards to participate in future elections.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Senator Anthony Adefuye, Prince Abiodun Ogunlewe, Asiwaju Olurunfunmi Bashorun, and Hon. Suleiman Kazeem, the chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area.
