Political commentator Reno Omokri has stirred debate on social media after contrasting a market project commissioned by the Anambra State Government with a housing development spearheaded by a local council chairman in Lagos.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Omokri described the Ekwulobia Market built by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, as underwhelming and unworthy of being branded a “legacy project.”

According to him, the market pales in comparison to developments executed at the local government level in Lagos State, singling out the Greenwich Gardens housing estate in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), led by Chairman Dele Osinowo.

“If you are honest, you will agree with me that the project by the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area is by far grander, more presentable, and befitting than the so-called Anambra State legacy project,” Omokri wrote.

He questioned the appropriateness of a state governor embarking on market construction in 2025, arguing that such tasks should ideally fall under the purview of local governments if autonomy were fully operational.

“After insulting, please also justify why an LCDA Chairman is outperforming a Governor,” he added.

The former presidential aide used the opportunity to renew his call for full local government autonomy in Nigeria, pointing to Lagos as a case study for what he described as the benefits of decentralised governance.
