As political activities intensify ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries and the July 12 local government elections in Lagos State, Hon. Femi Oyesile, Councillor representing Ward C in Ifako-Gbagada, Kosofe Local Government Area, has reeled out his achievements in office, reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development.

Oyesile, who also serves as the Deputy Leader of the Kosofe Legislative Council, highlighted his work across infrastructure, education, health, and social welfare sectors since assuming office in 2021.

Infrastructural and Environmental Interventions

In his tenure, several roads were rehabilitated, including Aran-Orin, Julius Kadiri, Ibrahim Onasokun, Ilawe, Lateef Dosunmu, and Okeowo-Somorin. He also spearheaded drainage desilting efforts in flood-prone areas such as Diya Street and Paul Odulaja, aiming to reduce flooding risks in the community.

Power and Water Projects

To address power challenges, Oyesile facilitated the acquisition of six transformers, including 500kva units installed at Millennium Estate and Bakare Bello Market. Additionally, two solar-powered boreholes were installed at Diya Street and Ayodele Okeowo Road to improve access to clean water.

Education and Youth Empowerment

The councillor sponsored 245 students—165 for JAMB and 80 for GCE—with free examination forms. Twenty-five youths were also enrolled at the Lagos State Vocational Skills Centre in Anthony, with all expenses for registration and uniforms covered.

Healthcare and Social Support

Oyesile’s office provided financial support of ₦5,000 to 80 constituents during ward meetings and offered healthcare assistance, including free eyeglasses to 50 residents and payment of hospital bills for indigent individuals. He also distributed food palliatives to widows, the elderly, and vulnerable households during festive seasons.

Legislation and Community Governance

He contributed to the passage of a local byelaw banning the sale of goods on pedestrian walkways and collaborated with local authorities to implement other community-focused policies.

Oyesile credited his achievements to the collaborative governance style of Kosofe Local Government Executive Chairman, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, whose leadership he described as visionary and supportive.

Public Perception and Political Strategy

While many residents have acknowledged his developmental strides, some critics argue that Oyesile’s efforts are less visible compared to counterparts like Sulaiman Baruwa and Saheed Omogbolahan Elewedu of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, who frequently publicize their interventions independently of their local government chairmen.

With the APC primaries drawing near, Oyesile is banking on his performance and community-based projects to secure another term, vowing to consolidate on current gains and deliver even greater impact if re-elected.
