With the July 12 Local Government elections fast approaching, political tensions are escalating in Ward C of the Ifako-Gbagada area under the Kosofe Local Government, Lagos State.

Labour Party councillorship aspirant, Ambassador Moyosore Badejo, has taken a swipe at the incumbent councilor and Majority Leader of the Kosofe Legislative Council, Hon. Femi Oyesile, accusing him of hastily assembling and publicizing what he described as questionable achievements in a bid to curry electoral favour.

Badejo, popularly known as MOG, expressed concern over what he termed a sudden surge of media publications showcasing Oyesile’s purported accomplishments, which he argued only surfaced after several years of inactivity in office.

“It’s quite interesting how some people suddenly begin to list ‘achievements’ just a few months to the election,” Badejo said. “For almost three and a half years, there was silence, no presence, no real engagement with the people, and nothing tangible to point to. Now, all of a sudden, publications are flying around with claims of projects and empowerment efforts.”

He questioned the credibility of a recent initiative reportedly undertaken by the incumbent — the distribution of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms — insisting there is no public evidence to support the claim.

“It’s a good initiative—if it truly happened,” Badejo stated. “But we have to ask: where’s the evidence? Who were the beneficiaries? Where are the photos, names, or any form of documentation?”

Calling for a shift in political culture, Badejo urged constituents to demand transparency and consistency from elected officials, stressing that leadership should not be reduced to seasonal publicity stunts.

“In this age, we can’t continue the politics of storytelling. The people are more informed. The youth are paying attention,” he said. “What we need now is consistency, visible impact, and leaders who are truly ready to serve, not those who remember the community only when it’s time to campaign.”

The Ward C race is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched contests in Kosofe, as voters intensify scrutiny of candidates’ track records and demand greater accountability ahead of the polls.
