As the May 10 All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship primaries in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA draw closer, tensions are escalating among aspirants and their supporters. A heated political exchange has emerged between Ola’ Obasan, media aide to frontrunner Toyin Balogun, and Comrade Olayiwola Sulyman Opomulero, following a fiery debate organized by KosofePost.

Mission To Rebuild

Opomulero had dismissed the crowded field of 15 aspirants as “a platform for comedians,” suggesting that many contenders had no realistic path to the party’s ticket. He named five aspirants he considers serious contenders, including Bola Bada, Hon. Adebanjo Adetunji, Hon. Jegede Oyekunle, Hon. Bidemi Akintunde, and Hon. Oromidayo Balogun.

His comments drew sharp criticism from Obasan, who strongly defended Balogun’s credentials and commitment.

“Thank God you said ‘in your opinion’. Everyone’s entitled to their view — but facts are facts,” Obasan stated. “Oluwatoyin Balogun boasts unmatched academic brilliance, political pedigree, and unwavering dedication. Let’s measure men by capability and track record, not conjecture.”

Obasan acknowledged that not all aspirants have equal footing, adding, “We both know many aspirants won’t fly the party ticket. The real contenders know themselves.”

He also highlighted Balogun’s longstanding political involvement, comparing his consistency to that of historical figures.

“Like Buhari and Lincoln, persistence pays. Toyin Balogun’s unbroken commitment isn’t noise — it’s a signal of resilience and readiness to lead.”

Opomulero, however, countered by questioning Balogun’s political approach and consistency.

“Buhari wasn’t an aspirant — he was always a candidate,” he argued. “Consistency without tangible engagement between election cycles is just showmanship. Toyin today for Rep, tomorrow for Chairman, next tomorrow for Assembly — is that service or serial ambition?”

Responding with a measured tone, Obasan described Balogun’s ambition as a mark of adaptability rather than opportunism.

“Toyin Balogun is no stranger to hard work behind the scenes. His cool, calm approach masks deep grassroots efforts. He was a key player in the Presidential Campaign Council and spearheaded APC’s full Kosofe campaign. The records are there. Ask around.”

With the primaries fast approaching, the political atmosphere in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA is intensifying. While opinions remain divided, one thing is certain — the battle for the APC ticket is shaping up to be fiercely contested, with Balogun’s camp determined to secure victory.
