Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the status of Honourable Rabiu Olayinka’s candidacy in the Kosofe Local Government chairmanship race, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its primary election scheduled for Friday, May 10.
Popularly known as “Whytee,” Hon. Olayinka on Thursday evening dismissed widespread speculation that he had stepped down from the race. Speaking to KosofePost, he reaffirmed his commitment to the contest, stating: “We are still on it,” in response to inquiries about his alleged withdrawal.
Olayinka remains the sole challenger to incumbent council chairman, Honourable Moyosore Ogunlewe, who is seeking a second term in office. The APC in Lagos State had previously advised aspirants to reach a consensus and offered a refund of nomination form fees to those who voluntarily withdraw by midnight on Friday.
Despite rumours that Olayinka had submitted a formal letter of withdrawal to the Kosofe APC Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Kehinde Bello, the aspirant categorically denied the move when contacted around 7 p.m. on Thursday.
However, further controversy arose on Friday evening when the Kosofe APC Local Government Secretary, Honourable Nofiu Fatai, told KosofePost publisher Bilesanmi Abayomi (Koko) that Olayinka had officially withdrawn from the race.
Efforts to obtain clarification from Alhaji Bello were unsuccessful as of press time.
With the APC primary just hours away, the true status of Olayinka’s candidacy remains uncertain, casting a shadow of confusion over the Kosofe local chairmanship contest.
