Remo Stars Football Club have etched their name in Nigeria’s football history, clinching their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with a resounding 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City FC. The triumph, hailed as a landmark achievement, marks the first time in two decades that an Ogun State-based team will lift the coveted trophy.

The celebratory atmosphere at the stadium was electric, as players, officials, and fans basked in the glory of a long-awaited success story built on discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who joined the celebrations, described the victory as a historic moment for the state and the club. “For the first time in the last 20 years, the Premier League is being won by an Ogun State team,” the governor stated, commending Remo Stars for putting the state on the national football map.

Chairman of the NPFL, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, applauded the team’s consistency and fighting spirit throughout the season. He noted that Remo Stars recorded more away and home victories than any other club, a feat he said justified their position as league champions.

In his remarks, Remo Stars Welfare Director, Afolabi Kazeem, attributed the club’s success to divine grace and unwavering support from stakeholders. “We are grateful to Almighty God for this moment. This trophy is long overdue, and we thank the coaching crew, our loyal fans, and the media for standing by us,” he said.

Midfielder Tochuku Michael also reflected on the significance of the title, stating that the victory helped “set the record straight” for a private football club that had weathered numerous challenges. “This is not just a trophy; it is proof that with God, determination, and unity, anything is possible,” he added.

Also present at the celebration was the Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Hon. Samiat Bada, who congratulated Remo Stars President, Kunle Soname, on the achievement. She described the win as well-deserved and praised the club’s leadership for its commitment to excellence.

The emphatic 4-1 win over Ikorodu City sealed a remarkable campaign for Remo Stars, whose rise to the top of Nigerian football has inspired fans and pundits alike.

As the curtain falls on the NPFL season, Remo Stars’ victory not only brings joy to Ogun State but also signals a shift in the Nigerian football narrative—one where private clubs, driven by passion and discipline, can rise to dominate the scene.
