In a dramatic turn of events, Hon. Adedeji Osinowo, the Councillor representing Ward C in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Kosofe, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for a second term, following a last-minute intervention by political heavyweight and former council chairman, Hon. Kunle Soname.

Prior to the APC primaries held on May 10, Osinowo faced fierce opposition from a fellow aspirant, Rosemary Olayemi Oshoffa. Tensions ran high at the primary venue, with many delegates and party members reportedly rejecting Osinowo’s candidacy and rallying behind Oshoffa.

However, party sources disclosed that incumbent Chairman Mayoress Samiat Abolanle Bada intervened to broker peace, swinging support toward Osinowo in deference to Soname’s influence and political capital within the ward.

KosofePost reports that Oshoffa’s name had initially appeared on the nomination list. But in a surprising twist, Osinowo’s name was later inserted—securing him the APC’s endorsement and dashing his rival’s ambitions.

The development has triggered mixed reactions within the party, with several loyalists decrying the conduct and outcomes of the primaries across Lagos State. The APC State Secretariat is believed to have received over 100 petitions challenging the results of various council primaries.

Osinowo’s victory underscores the enduring grip of political alliances and godfatherism in local politics, particularly within the APC’s power structure in Lagos. As the party navigates growing internal discontent, reconciliation efforts may prove critical ahead of the 2025 local council polls and the 2027 general elections.
