Suspected Transformer Vandal Caught in Anthony Village, Lagos

A 23-year-old man identified as Dickson Wisdom, from Cross River State, was apprehended in the early hours of Friday for allegedly vandalising an electricity transformer in Anthony Village, Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Wisdom was reportedly caught in the act by vigilant members of the community and was immediately handed over to the police. He is currently being detained at a local police station and is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation.
Community Mobilises
Following the arrest, community leaders and members of the local security committee quickly mobilised to assess the situation. Mr. Lekan Odujurin, a prominent community representative, alongside the secretary of the security committee and officials from Ikeja Electric (formerly NEPA), visited the site of the damaged transformer to evaluate the extent of the damage.
“We have reached out to NEPA for a full assessment of the transformer. Their input is critical in determining the cost of repairs and next steps,” a community member said during the early morning inspection.
Call for Action
Hon. Ibrahim Mustapha, a respected figure within the community, urged members of the Community Development Association (CDA) executive committee to remain actively involved in the matter. He stressed the need for collective vigilance and a strong follow-up to ensure those behind acts of infrastructure sabotage are brought to book.
“We must take this seriously and ensure this suspect and others like him are routed out of our CDA,” Hon. Mustapha said.

The arrest has also triggered a debate about the financial implications of handling criminal suspects.

The incident has reignited longstanding concerns about security and the challenges of safeguarding critical infrastructure. Some residents expressed frustration at what they described as a lack of effective deterrence.
“Why won’t people resort to jungle justice when a thief is caught red-handed, yet the community is asked to feed him?” Hon. Mustapha questioned.
Call for Vigilance
In the wake of the incident, community members are calling for tighter security measures and more effective collaboration with law enforcement agencies to curb vandalism and similar crimes.
The damaged transformer is currently under assessment, with electricity officials expected to provide a comprehensive report to guide repairs and possible legal action against the suspect.
