In a rare display of bipartisan alignment ahead of the July 12 local government elections, Olushola Daniyan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Councilorship candidate for Ward C in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has publicly thrown his support behind the recent comments made by APC-backed Council Chairman, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, urging constituents to hold federal lawmakers accountable for poor performance.

Speaking in an interview with KosofePost, Daniyan described Chairman Bada’s remarks—not as political provocation—but as a much-needed “wake-up call” to residents disillusioned by ineffective representation in government.

“I don’t see what the Mayoress said as incitement,” Daniyan stated. “It was a call to action for those who have neglected their responsibilities.”

He lauded Bada’s criticism of federal lawmakers who allegedly offer “cash handouts” while failing to deliver tangible development. Daniyan said such practices have contributed to deep-seated cynicism, particularly among Nigerian youths.

“It’s somehow sad anytime I’m in a conversation about Nigeria and someone asks, ‘Can this country ever be great again?’” he lamented. “That many young people now believe that survival by any means is the only way speaks volumes about how low legislative performance has fallen.”

Daniyan also took a swipe at political parties that recycle non-performing candidates or impose so-called “toothpick candidates” who lack grassroots connection and competence.

He called for a return to performance-based politics, asserting that July 12 offers voters the opportunity to reclaim power and demand better governance.

“Ikosi-Isheri can be great again if our lawmakers truly embrace their legislative duties. This election is more than a ballot—it’s a referendum on integrity and leadership,” he said.

The PDP candidate didn’t spare some of the current councilors under Bada’s administration either, stating that some have fallen short of their mandate and must be held accountable by the people.

“If elected, I will champion community empowerment and push for the recall of any representative—regardless of party—who fails to deliver,” he vowed.

Daniyan concluded with a unifying message to residents:

“Let’s rebuild our community together. July 12 isn’t just about casting votes—it’s about shaping our future with courage, clarity, and commitment.”
