The outgoing Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mayor Dele Oshinowo, has expressed deep gratitude to the people of the council area for the trust and support shown throughout his eight-year tenure, as he commissioned a series of legacy projects to mark his final days in office.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State led the commissioning on Friday at the LCDA Secretariat, where five key projects were officially unveiled as part of the outgoing administration’s final achievements.
The newly commissioned projects include:
Otunba Bushura Alebiosu Multipurpose Building, featuring 84 offices, a legislative chamber, marriage registry, and event hall.
Agboyi Primary School, equipped with 10 classrooms, crèche, ICT lab, sick bay, staff offices, and head teacher’s office.
Agboyi-Ketu Tech Hub, to drive digital innovation at the grassroots.
HRM Oba Taiwo Adesegun Lamina Sports Centre, a 550-seater capacity facility.
A Network of 12 Newly Paved and Asphalted Roads with modern drainage systems.
In an emotional address, Oshinowo described the day as one of gratitude, reflection, and legacy, stating that his administration prioritized people-first policies despite challenges like resistance, limited resources, and rising demands.
“This journey began with a dream—to transform Agboyi-Ketu from potential into progress,” he said. “Eight years on, we didn’t just put Agboyi-Ketu on the map, we inscribed it into the conscience of Lagos and the nation.”
He declared that Agboyi-Ketu had become a model for grassroots development, earning national recognition as the number one local council in Nigeria due to consistent delivery of impactful projects.
Oshinowo also praised his team, political appointees, civil servants, and community members for their role in driving the administration’s success.
“As I hand over today, I do so with a full heart and a clear conscience. We gave our best, stayed true to our people, and built a legacy that will outlive this administration,” he said.
He handed the baton to the Chairman-designate, Hon. Tolani Abubakar, whom he described as a loyal and capable partner in the administration’s journey.
“She has walked this path with us for eight years. She understands the heartbeat of this administration and will carry the legacy forward with integrity and purpose,” Oshinowo said.
In his remarks, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended Oshinowo for his exemplary leadership, which he said set a new benchmark for local governance in Lagos.
“Mayor Dele Oshinowo’s tenure is a reflection of the Lagos we are building—one defined by service, impact, and accountability,” the governor said. “I’ve been to this council more than three times in six years. That alone shows the volume of people-focused initiatives being executed here.”
Sanwo-Olu urged other council leaders across the state to emulate the Agboyi-Ketu model, emphasizing the importance of continuity, vision, and people-centered development.
Hon. Tolani Abubakar, in her acceptance remarks, pledged to build on Oshinowo’s legacy and deepen the developmental strides initiated by the outgoing administration.
“I am committed to sustaining this vision and ensuring that Agboyi-Ketu continues to grow in infrastructure, empowerment, and inclusivity,” she said.
