New Nigerian Community Leaders Emerge in Crewe, UK Amid Festive ‘Wazobia Owanbe’ Celebration

The Nigerian community in Crewe, United Kingdom, has ushered in a new chapter with the election of a fresh set of executive leaders. The announcement was made during the grand finale of the three-day “Naija in Crewe” celebration on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

Held under the theme “Celebrating Resilience – Wazobia Owanbe 2025”, the event brought together Nigerians from various walks of life to celebrate unity, cultural pride, and the growing sense of community among the diaspora. The festive affair was made possible through support from sponsors including Gremia.co.uk, LemFi Amaka’s, Wirral Afro-Caribbean Store, and Odens Lounge.

Day One featured a thought-provoking workshop and community-centered discussions.

Day Two was marked by a lively Family Hangout and Games Day.

Day Three, the grand finale, blended music, dance, cultural displays, networking, and heartfelt farewells.

New Leadership, Renewed Commitment

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executive committee, Chairman Abdulazeez Banjoko expressed appreciation for the community’s trust and pledged to lead with integrity.

“On behalf of the newly elected committee, I want to say a very big thank you to everyone for trusting us to move this community forward in a positive direction. I promise we will not disappoint,” Banjoko stated.

Outgoing Vice President Tochi Chidozie praised the contributions of the outgoing executives and assured the new leadership of continued support.

“As we prepare to hand over to the incoming exco, we wish you all the best. May your time in office be impactful and fulfilling. We are always happy to guide and support you whenever called upon,” she said.

A Heartfelt Farewell and a Hopeful Future

Tochi also took a moment to thank the event planning team and sponsors, lauding their commitment, energy, and unwavering support.

“You made this celebration a reality, and your impact is deeply appreciated,” she remarked.

She encouraged guests to fully embrace the moment and build connections beyond the celebration.

“If you’re new or came alone, don’t stay isolated. Walk up to someone, say hello, and ask their name. Make a new friend today—you might even go home with a gift,” she said with a warm smile. “I’m hoping to make a new friend too—walk up and say hello to me!”

Reflecting on the journey, she concluded, “From Friday’s opening to today’s grand finale, we’ve not just grown in WhatsApp numbers, but in genuine community spirit.”

The event wrapped up with dancing, laughter, photographs, and renewed optimism for the future of the Nigerian community in Crewe.
